Jr. Gone Wild – The 2016 Beaumont Blues & Roots Festival
Jr. Gone Wild is a country/punk rock band that originally founded in Edmonton in 1983. Mike McDonald formed the band on his 20th birthday and was heavily influenced by both Neil Young and Moe Berg’s local power-pop punk band, the Modern Minds. The first few years brought touring, a continual rotation of band members, sharing management with SNFU, landing a recording deal with Stony Plain Records and the term “cowpunk” appeared. The next batch of years brought bass player Dove Brown, more touring, drinking, and denial and finally break up in 1995.
Jr. Gone Wild has reformed recently, recorded new songs, and there’s currently a documentary being produced about them. We are honoured to have this often unknown influencer of the huge wave of alt-country that dominates the charts now a days.
